This supplement shares the collective experience and learning from The Challenge Initiative’s (TCI) strategies for helping local governments to rapidly and sustainably scale up access to family planning (FP) for women, youth, and adolescents. The high-impact interventions for FP and adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) were implemented in 109 geographies in 11 low-income countries between 2016 and 2021.
The articles in this supplement provide learnings on how TCI works with health systems at local government levels using several foundational strategies that are adapted to the contexts and health systems where they are used. The TCI platform uses a demand-driven approach that centers local government leadership from the start. TCI’s coaching model supports local governments to use real-time quantitative and qualitative data to adapt, implement, and scale evidence-based solutions. We expect that the learnings we share from this experience are relevant for scaling and sustainability in a broader range of health areas.
These supplement articles will be published on an ongoing basis as they are peer-reviewed and accepted. The articles will then be compiled into a supplement and published online.
